Finding Joy in a Mug

10 Mugs for Your Next Coffee Break
(Virtual or IRL)

If there is one thing that is certain right now, it’s that quite a few of us are spending more time in our homes. During the month of March, Manitobans were asked to “Stay Home” to flatten the curve. And thus began one month of working from home for me. One thing I noticed during that time, is that I was finding moments of joy in the act of picking out a different coffee mug each morning!

Since I have the Collector gene, I do have a eclectic range of mug choices in the cupboard. Some mugs remind me of trips, some are works of art by local ceramicists, and some are just plain silly (e.g., Branch from the Trolls movie, with his washed-away pupils from an ill-fated trip into the dishwasher)!

I have put together this round-up of mugs that I would love to have in my cupboard. I hope you have been able to find moments of joy also, during these weird and trying times!

White Moth & Stars Mug, Moon In June Studio

I love Aimee’s work, and have had my eye on her ceramics for a while. Her mugs are earthy, etherial, and I imagine they would magically transport me into a beautiful cabin the woods. Shop her etsy store here.

Arhoj Quench Cups from NEVER coffee

I would love a set of these mugs, from my favourite coffee shop NEVER coffee in Portland, Oregon. I travelled there in 2018 with my bestie, and have the fondest of memories. We visited this coffee shop, which was located nice and close to our airbnb, early in the morning on our way to catch our flight home.

Have A Nice Day Mug

Another coffee must visit in Portland, Oregon is Stumptown Coffee Roasters. I love the design of their merch! They rotate their mug designs, so it’s a limited edition situation with this one.

Emotional Support Mug

I mean, that’s essentially what my mugs were doing for me in the height of lockdown. I thought about getting a cat too, but my allergies held me back from following through! Find it here from Urban Outfitters.

Marimekko - Oiva Siirtolapuutarha Mug

I love the bold, graphic patterns and design sensibilities of Finnish Design House Marimekko. This mug from the Canadian furniture and home goods company EQ3 is so pretty to look at. I will drink coffee out of it and plan a Nordic adventure!

Cat memes will get me through most of life’s challenges. This one is the most purrrrrfect of the office humour.
