This Barbie is a Detective

Get ready for the Barbie Movie premiere with me in Ottawa!

Here’s what I’m doing to get pumped up:

  • Stopping by the Barbiest cafe Luxe Blooms Flower Cafe and taking a million photos, among the zillion flowers that line the walls!

  • Ordering the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Latte from their Spring Flavours menu. I reeeallly hope this makes it onto the permanent menu. Another nostalgic thing for me is Strawberry Milk. Bonus, they can make it with oat milk!

  • Thrifting a feeeeew more pink things for my closet from Thrive Select Thrift, like this polka dot cardi and purse in Barbie Pantone Pink.

  • Picking up yet another tube of pink lipstick, in search of the perfect shade. I think I found it. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Matte 005 Heartbreaker. For more of a bubblegum option, I’m combining 016 Candy Addict with 006 Lift Off Colorstay Lip Crayon.

Collage of photos from Luxe Flower Blooms Cafe. Stephanie is wearing a polka dot cardigan, black top and black jean shorts, white belt, pink patterned head scarf and pink purse. Second photo, she is holding an iced latte, seated beside a flowerwall.

Growing up, I had a collection of barbies, among many other collections (Trolls, Popples, marbles, rocks, Polly Pocket, Keepers, Pogs, hockey cards, and many more that verify my geriatric millennial status). My fave was rollerskating Barbie (the rollerblades gave off real sparks). I also enjoyed listening to my french “Barbie Fête Sur la Plage” tape on repeat, until it became a tumbleweed that would no longer allow itself to be rewound with a pencil. I actually found it on youtube - listen here. I loved Barbie clothing, the accessories, and styling my own “Grunge Barbie”.

I can’t wait to see the movie, the fashion and set design, and experience Barbieland through the eyes of indie director Greta Gerwig.
