Summer Ice Cream BINGO

I will eat ice cream anytime of the year, but it’s especially enjoyable in the easy, breezy days of summer. The act of going for ice cream is deeply nostalgic for me. It was my Grandma’s favourite activity too, and it makes me smile as I remember the many ice cream moments we shared.

I’ve put together a list of my fave spots in Winnipeg below, and I’ve also created an “Ice Cream Crawl Bingo Card” for you to download and play this summer. Have fun, and let me know if you discover something new!

Dug & Betty’s

St. Boniface

Dug & Betty’s is my fave ice cream spot in the city. They have so many flavours to choose from, are generous with their scoops, super friendly, and they have Gluten-Free/Dairy-Free/Vegan options. If you are having trouble narrowing down your choices, they have flights available (4 different scoops). Sit on the cute outdoor patio, and try their dining room menu (highly recommended), if you still have room AFTER dessert!

Fête

Downtown

Fête’s atmosphere is fun, they have amazing flavours, and they are next door to a dog park (it’s so fun to watch the doggies frolic). Their ice cream is made with quality ingredients, and they have Gluten-Friendly and Dairy-Free options. They also serve Detour coffee, so you can stop in for an excellent cup of coffee too! While you’re there, grab a selfie in front of the colourful wall. You may recognize this backdrop from my “About” page!

Chaeban

South Osborne

My family’s top choice is “Salty Carl”, and I can’t wait to try Carl’s vegan twin “Salty Carla” this summer! This company has a heart-warming backstory, and I admire that they hold their core values at the forefront of the business - care for all people always, be environmentally friendly, give back whenever possible, make everything from scratch, and support local producers. And not only that, their ice cream is rich and delicious. Chaeban offers an ice cream subscription, if you prefer your ice cream to come to you on a regular basis. And now they make cheese!

Sargent Sundae

St. James

Sargent Sundae has been around as long as I have! If you are a big fan of pumpkin pie like me, you have to get their Pumpkin Pie Soft Serve. And once you try it, you will probably want to get a pint to take home. This spot is an institution in Winnipeg, open seasonally, and is perfect for a treat-and-a-stroll across the bridge into Assiniboine Park! Be prepared to wait in line, as this is a popular location, and bring cash.

Eva’s Gelato

Corydon

I have been going here for years! Eva’s always has a fun “flavour of the month”, as well as Dairy-Free options. They serve authentic Argentinean gelato, and I love visiting them on the regular.

Sub Zero

Elmwood

This place is off the beaten path. When you do find it, you will open up a treasure trove of Parfaits. With so many interesting combos, the hardest part will be deciding what to try! Next time I go, I want to try the DOWN UNDER Parfait (Soft Vanilla layered with Nutella, Cappuccino crumble, Tim Tam biscuits, Choc Hazelnut cream filled wafer, and Hot Caramel)!!!

Le Monkey Bar

Provencher Bridge

Everything, yes everything, is VEGAN! This spot is open seasonally. Even if you aren’t vegan, you will be surprised that it doesn’t contain any dairy! They have sundaes, shakes, smoothies, cheesecake, chocolate dipped bananas and other treats, including a jumbo peanut butter cup! Working in St. Boniface, it makes for a great afternoon snack break.

Not A Waffle

Corydon

At Not A Waffle you will find FUN and unique flavours/toppings in a Taiyaki (Japanese waffle cone shaped like a fish)!

In these times, as well as with the restrictions in Manitoba for the month of May, use your best judgement when visiting these establishments. Do some investigation into the hours and protocols before your visit. I hope you will have a chance to enjoy safely!
